Jan 17th 2016 Net Check-In

The recap (and for those that missed tonights net):

Check ins tonight with discussions on Football, Minnesota weather, Radio Frequency interference (and a quick discussion on Cree LED bulbs) as well as updates on what our fellow hams are up to lately.

Cree LED lights: note that you should purchase these from your local hardware store if possible as the internet is littered with knock-offs… and these are kind of expensive but they do tend to work well for me with little to no Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).

To hunt for RFI in the house I find that you can take an AM radio and (with the antenna extended) go through your house hunting problem devices. This or an SDR (Software Defined Radio) tends to be my go to ways of tracking down RFI. Depending on your method you will hear or see when you are close to an RFI generating device.

For those that are interested there is no longer a charge from the FCC for a Vanity Call Sign. Log into your FCC license manager and click “request Vanity Call Sign”. Please note you will want to list a few as there is an 18 day hold on the application before it goes through.

During our next meeting is the voting for 2016 board members and duties. If you are interested please put your name in to the hat. A special thank you for all those that volunteered during 2015!!!

If there are any specific topics you would like to discuss on an upcoming net please feel free to pass those along and I will do my best to incorporate them in.
