Field Day 2014

2014 Field Day Weekend Summary

Our first Field Day event held over June 28-29 2014 at Miller Park was a success.

Thank you to these dignitaries who visited:

  • Ward Parker, Assistant Chief of Operations Chief, Eden Prairie Fire
  • Rik Berkbigler, Emergency Preparedness Asst.Chief, Eden Prairie Fire
  • Tim Fogarty, American Red Cross Emergency Communications
  • Officers from the Eden Prairie Police Department.
  • Skip Jackson KS0J, Minnesota Section Manger for the American Radio Relay League

We had many other visitors and all our promotional material was distributed.

One of our visitors from the Minnetonka QRP radio club came by bicycle from his home in Minnetonka.

The heavy rain did not dampen our spirits and we had a great time. Conditions were pretty bad on Saturday night and we had shut down a few times for safety due to the lightning.

From our Log:
371 total contacts
35 by cw (morse code)
361 by voice (Phone)

Band conditions were pretty noisy. The 40 and 20 meter bands were very crowded.

We had some success on 15 meters, especially late Saturday night when we worked some very long distance stations using a Buddypole vertical. We contacted almost every state and section in the United states and Canada.
Long distance (DX) contacts included:
Porto Rico
Virgin Islands

We did not hear Alaska, Iowa, or Maine.
